A surfer carving across a powerful tropical wave in the Mentawai Islands

Evolution 2027—2037

From the water to a new shape of flight.

A staged aviation journey begins with amphibious island connections, advances through domestic and international operations, and reaches toward a SAF-led, electric and blended-wing future.

The hinge between eras

Pei Pei turns an island airfield into a regional gateway.

The sequence is deliberate: water-based mobility first, domestic runway services next, and international operations only after the proposed Siberut airport secures the required certification and approvals.

Seaplane network

In development

The sea becomes the first runway.

Until Pei Pei's domestic terminal and runway are complete, the proposed domestic seaplane division is intended to connect Padang with Mentawai Bay on Siberut and create practical links between Siberut, Sipora and Pagai.

Domestic runway

Planned

Pei Pei opens the domestic runway era.

Once the proposed domestic terminal and runway are complete and approved for service, ATR twin-prop aircraft are intended to connect Siberut with Indonesia's major domestic centres.

SAF-first airport

Planned

Make lower-carbon operations the airport default.

The Pei Pei operating vision puts Sustainable Aviation Fuel readiness, fixed ground power, electric airside vehicles and efficient terminal systems into the airport pathway from the beginning.

International gateway

Future capability

International certification opens the region.

Only after the required international certification and approvals, the ambition expands to Airbus A320-family services connecting Siberut directly with selected regional cities.

Electric island flight

Future capability

Short island sectors begin to electrify.

As certified electric and hybrid-electric aircraft become commercially viable, Mentawai's shorter sectors could become a natural proving ground for quiet, lower-emission island mobility.

Blended-wing horizon

Vision

A blended-wing horizon for 2037.

The culminating ambition is for Mentawai Airways to be ready to evaluate aircraft such as the JetZero Z4 for a future long-range network—an aspirational adoption horizon, not an aircraft order or confirmed entry-into-service date.

Target years express Mentawai Airways' current development ambition. Aircraft availability, airport delivery, routes, certification, partnerships and launch timing remain subject to technical studies, commercial decisions and regulatory approvals. The 2037 JetZero phase is an aspirational Mentawai adoption horizon, not a disclosed aircraft order.
